I moved to New York City (Yes you read that right! THAT only took twenty-nine years for me to do...) and haven't gotten around to setting up internet yet. I've been picking at the software that came with my drawing tablet while I wait to be reunited with Youtube. No internet is healthy yet maddening!

What what? What is this? It's not the reckless throwing around of ink you usually see around here...

Things have been totally fucked up. This is my first thing that's on my own in months. I've retaught myself some Flash and made a little Mook. He's running, which is way more than I can do at the moment.

I don't know why this took so long. Actually I do.... when you make a series, you create all these rules for yourself, so it's a closed system. But then you make that last one, and it's been a while since you thought about the system, and the piece is supposed to be a bit different than the others anyway, and you just trip over and over yourself just thinking of all the solutions to the visual problem that needs to be solved, wondering what the best solution is. How long can you make visual solutions before you know you've found the right one? Finaly, you just have to settle on something. SOMETHING. I stopped on this one, for the ring motif. But for some reason it was hard to wrangle into a good composition that fits into that said set of rules that makes a series a series.

But I think I have to change the beginning, now. The Fun-A-Day show is coming up on April 27, so I better have everything all organized!

Why I think I can make a graphic novel, I don't know...

While searching the internet for art things to go to, I saw a landscape painting by Matisse. Suddenly in my mind I saw an image of Tom Waits, singing/yelling, superimposed over it. A vision! But hell, I can't paint like Matisse.

Okay okay so it's not done yet. The last one's thumbnailed and ready to execute. I just haven't executed yet. Mostly I want to post it this way so Poodle Murphy doesn't get lost in the shuffle. She's got cool thighs.

Tom Waits and Franz Kline are an odd but compatible couple. Photo does not convey how much ink and paint is caked onto this poor piece of paper. Not as much as a Kline painting, but more than what I usually do. This is #24. I'm almost done with a series of characters from his song "Circus", and realized I hadn't actually just drawn the actual man in a while. Thus: this.

Tom Waits #9. And I'm not done yet.

Yessss, it's Fun-A-Day again, because nothing lights a fire under my artisty ass than Fun-A-Day. My project this year: Tom-Waits-a-Day. I made a run of 10 of these patches, and another run of 10 in a different color.

Last year I failed and didn't make all 31 pieces for each day of January. This year I'm determined! 31 in '13! Happy New Year!

Oh and lo, something's happeniiiiinng... I've been picking at this and picking at this all week. Carving on actual linoleum is soooo much better than that "cuts like butter" garbage. Um, I forgot to flip the image. So it's opposite will be the finished print. Oh well. Good thing there's no lettering!

My latest chalkboard. I don't usually do anything too elaborate, but I was inspired by Jeff Rogers. If he can paint letters for McDonalds, then I can letter for Whole Foods Market.

It's been like a million years since I updated. Sorry! Did I work on relief printing like I said I would? Uh... no not really. But I did knit a pink penguin with a mohawk.

This is Knitty's Pasha pattern again, but anytime I got close to knitting the middle of his back I'd make a few drop-loop stitches. He's much too cute to be contained. Kinda prehistoric, don't you think? Here he is, checking the ground for any sea lions...

He made a break for it out the back door. Where's he going? My guess is to Chautauqua, NY. Specifically to St. Elmo's Fiber, my favorite Little Yarn Shop. It's my favorite because it's my mom's!

Made some color separations in Photoshop. Holy eff, I was NOT expecting it to be a three-color print. Much much tedium. But it looks the best this way so far. So, now to get carvin'.

My house is filling with knit birds again, but that's okay.

The two penguins are for my friend, but the little ones I tend to knit compulsively. The penguins are Pasha from Knitty (and I have longed for an excuse and enough materials to knit that pattern for years!) and the little ones are the aptly named Little Birds by Duo Fiberworks. Free patterns!

It's Spring in the woods, and Srom and Mona are finaly friends.

My bread&buttah job has been crazy, so no finished work lately. However, I've gotten in the habit of getting up and going straight to the desk so I can draw and pick at projects for ten minutes or so before I get ready to work. This sketch was being knit in my brain-womb for months, and now it's ready to go!

These two drawings are from a year ago, when I illustrated local food hero Anna Tourkakis' cookbook Delicious Simplicity. When I was given the assignment I was kinda like whuuuut, because black & white images of food are normally not appetizing, but looking back on these now I'm still pleased with them. It was a good challenge.
