This is the second Queequeg I made. It's inked right into my sketchbook, so the paper's a little warpy. When I started Queequeg-a-day I was worried about all the boat anatomy I'd have to draw, but as it turns out I had nothing to worry about.

Queequeg and his idol, Yojo. A little ink on some tan stonehenge. I've been watching some clips of televised versions of Moby Dick on youtube, and in one version Queequeg is huge! They gave him a full head of hair too, which is "yikes" and "wrong".

Queequeg is hired to be loyal to his first mate Starbuck, at all times.

Next month, there will be an exhibit of the work of all who had Fun-a-Day. It takes place at the NAVE Gallery in Somerville, MA. Oh, excitement; I'll get to see what everyone else has done!

Call me a philistine if you want, but one of my favorite chapters from Moby Dick is "Cistern and Buckets". It's one of the last times you hear about Queeequeg in the book, and he's shining and badass. It's the part that cemented him as my favorite character in the book, and one of my favorite characters in all of storytelling.

There's only a few days left of Fun-a-day Boston. Come February I will start scanning, photographing, and posting all my Queequegs. Many are just too big or funny-shaped for me to bother right now.

Another Queequeg drawing for you! This is the scene that all scholars like to flip out about: where Ishmael gushes about how much he loves sharing a bed with a friend like Queequeg. "Bosom buddies" he says. I don't think it's that big a deal. In 19th Century New England, it was probably friggin COLD in those inns!

Woah, this one's done with the computer! That makes it a better piece, right?
I have been drawing little winter birds like crazy, lately. Their plainness just adds to their charm! One of my projects this year is to feed wild birds by hand. It takes a lot of patience, but I've seen it done before. Well... on youtube I've seen it done before.

Robots are meant to replace humans when it comes to daunting or annoying tasks. Perhaps because of this, deep down in their gears and processors, there's an intrinsic want to actually BE human.

Somehow this thought turned into a robot crashing a Disney scene. But hey, it makes sense in the end. Didn't Ariel want the exact same thing?

An illustration inspired by the song "Between the Wars", one of my favorites.
The bombers are made from a stamp I cut from bicycle innertube. It was the first time I've done anything like that, so next time I think of something that would make a great stamp, it will look better.
