Someone I work with requested a drawing of the moon, because her two-year-old daughter is obsessed with it.
I love the fact that a little girl can be obsessed with the moon.

Mona in the woods, like a ghost. Just an experiment...

Watch out, Sabrina's got an M9! Wait, which one's the M9? Hey, they're both M9s!

A rendition of Sabrina, from the Criminal Macabre books by Steve Niles. It was pretty confusing at first when I searched for a drawing reference for the Leica M9 and all these guns showed up, especially since drawing a gun was in the plan anyway.

With all the fresh paint left, I made a few more sketches. Something from my book! Srom attending to his sickness and bones with flowers and herbs. Looks kinda Ben Shahn-ish, right? That's because I adore Ben Shahn's work.

A ritual rewatching of Vertigo was due. I always felt so sorry for Midge, learning the hard way that being a successful working artist in a big city isn't enough. You'll get obscured by this mystical mystery woman who's just so fucking fantastic and mesmerizing to everyone. You can never hope to meet her, so there's no opportunity to figure out what the hell's just so great about her so you can duplicate it. When you try, you just end up embarassing yourself. I hateHATE that scene where she shows the painting of herself to Scottie, because I just feel so bad for her, and possibly myself.

Maybe soon I'll get onto a fuller pallette. Having more than one color's vaguely interested me lately, but so has making lots and lots of relief prints. Pretty opposite, right?

One of my favorite Fun-A-Days from this year. An amusing phrase that I passed by on tumblr. Couldn't really, say, "illustrate" what I saw in it. Words and typography seem just colorless and mass-less, but at the same time colorful and heavy. So I went with nothingness on paper. But it still packs a punch, and in fact, it wasn't on the wall during the show because of its central F-bomb.

Fable

The mountain and the squirrel
Had a quarrel;
And the former called the latter "Little Prig."
Bun replied,
"You are doubtless very big;
But all sorts of things and weather
Must be taken in together
To make up a year
And a sphere.
And I think it's no disgrace
To occupy my place.
If I'm not so large as you,
You are not so small as I,
And not half so spry.
I'll not deny you make
A very pretty squirrel track;
Talents differ: all is well and wisely put;
If I cannot carry forests on my back,
Neither can you crack a nut."

BIG OLD ANNOUNCEMENT EVERYONE. The 2012 Fun-A-Day Boston Show is coming, and it'll be bigger than last year I just know it! Go see what I managed to eke out this year. There will be block prints you can buy or trade and fun things that the Fun-A-Day Boston crew has probably come up with. The work of a ton of Boston-area artists will be in the Aviary Gallery in Jamaica Plain from March 29 – April 1st and it's FREE to be there!

Now? I'm thinking about what my theme's going to be next year...

Here are event stats:

Did a little drawing at the Whitehaus Family Record in Jamaica Plain while listening to an eleven-part improvisation ensemble, invitation coming from violinist Jeffrey Young. They are Beasts of Improvisation on Parade! It was like wandering through a dark forest of musicians. Came out with a sketch as abstract as the music itself. At least I hope I did. Listen to the session and assess it yourself!

Matt Samolis himself, playing some pretty awesome flute.

Woo, lots of link-dropping!

I'm a Unity Freak In a Video World. Linoleum block print on 8.5x7 bristol paper.

This is my first image for my Fun-A-Day project. On January 1st, I was waiting for the bus to work when I looked at the light post and saw the phrase "I'm a unity freak in a video world" written on it in chalk.

Fun-A-Day Boston is having its show again very soon (more info on that later), and this print will be available for you to buy there. There's only 10 though (I made a run of 12, I'd like to keep 2) so do what you will.

Characters change so fast. Updated Mona. I don't know what she'll do in the winter.
